A Parent-Run Committee
Mitchelton Pre-Schooling Centre Inc is a community kindergarten affiliated with The Gowrie (Qld).
As a not-for profit kindergarten, we rely on the active involvement of families to guide and support the service. Our Parent Management Committee plays a vital role in fostering this partnership, strengthening our sense of community and ensuring that decisions reflect the needs and values of our families.
Supporting the Committee is our dedicated Nominated Supervisor, Educational Leader and Business Manager, whose leadership and expertise help ensure the smooth operation of our kindergarten and the delivery of a high-quality educational program.
Together we work to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where children thrive and have an ethos of continual improvement.

Our History
Mitchelton Pre-Schooling Centre Inc. (MPC) has a long and proud history of supporting local families. As a community Kindergarten, we value the dedication and commitment of the parents, educators and volunteers who have laid the foundations of MPC over many decades. As we approach our 80th year of serving the Mitchelton and surrounding communities, we remain committed to preserving the trusted reputation we have built while embracing a clear vision for the future.
The original Mitchelton Community Preschool Association’s was established almost 80 years ago, with the kindergarten opening in 1949. Today, that original building has been replaced by three dedicated Kindergarten units set amongst expansive green spaces.
The magnificent gum tree pictured here has stood the test of time and continues to stand proudly within our kindergarten grounds, a living reminder of our rich history and enduring connection to the community.

How old does my child need to be to attend Kindy?
Your child can attend Kindy in the year they turn 4 years old by 30th June. You can use the Kindy calculator to determine which year your child is age eligible to attend Kindy.
How do I enrol?
Please complete the waiting list application (if we can have the word waiting list a hyperlink to the enrolment form). Once submitted, families will receive an automatic email confirming we have received your application. The year prior to your child commencing Kindy/MPC3’s you will receive an invitation to our Open Day which provides families the opportunity to tour our centre. Enrolment offers commence from June the year prior and are sent in waiting list order.
Are you open year-round?
Kindy operates in alignment with school terms. We are closed during the school holidays and on public holidays.
How many children are in each Kindy group?
Each Kindy group has a maximum of 22 children.
How many staff work with each group?
Each group is supported by 2 staff, an Early Childhood Teacher and an Educator. Where extra support is required, additional staff join the group.
Do you provide food?
Families provide their child’s food each day, including morning tea, lunch and, on the longer days – afternoon tea.
We nurture a positive relationship with food by encouraging relaxed, mindful mealtimes and open, respectful conversations about health, culture and nutrition.
Do the children have a rest time at Kindy?
Yes – rest is an important part of our day. Each afternoon, the group enjoys a brief period of calm, with relaxation opportunities tailored to individual needs.
How do you manage safety and privacy of children?
To protect the safety and privacy of the children In our care, photography is carefully managed. Images are only taken and shared with appropriate family consent and in accordance with our child safety and privacy policies. We have a no phone policy for all visitors, this includes parents/guardians to our service.
How does MPC keep families informed?
Teachers hold twice yearly parent teacher interviews along with a summative assessment mid-year and transition report moving into Prep. Weekly updates from teachers around programming and planning are sent to all families. Term time newsletters are sent to each family.
